Battery production
Are you in the battery value chain, striving for a sustainable production with easy access to renewable and carbon neutral energy? Our region offers a highly developed industrial area, with a skilled workforce and abundant green energy from wind- and hydropower. With neighbors such as Northvolt and PTL, you will be in good company.
TORSBODA INDUSTRIAL PARK
Europe’s largest anode production hub
PTL, a leading global manufacturer in the battery industry and one of Northvolt’s most important subcontractors is planning a facility in Torsboda Industrial Park in Timrå, Västernorrland. This facility will be Europe’s largest anode production plant. It is PTL’s first anode factory establishment outside of Asia, but with four major facilities in China operated through subsidiary Zichen, the company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of anode materials.
Torsboda Industrial Park has space for more industries as it offers 150 hectares of land and 450 MW of clean energy, strategically located close to the Baltic Sea.
Become a part of the battery value chain
Northvolt is building their new gigafactory Northvolt Ett in nearby Skellefteå. The factory will produce the world’s greenest battery and employ 3 000 workers when it is in full production. With the Northvolt factory in Skellefteå and PTL anode production plant in Timrå, a green battery production cluster is quickly forming. Suppliers and partners are looking to northern Sweden to take advantage of the same conditions that led Northvolt and PTL to choose this region for their factories.
Why northern Sweden is the place for green electrification
Manufacturers within the battery industry, such as PTL and Northvolt, have already chosen to invest in and establish themselves in northern Sweden. Take advantage of the favorable conditions we offer in the region of Västernorrland for further establishments within the battery value chain.
Deep industrial tradition
Europe’s lowest electricity prices
Well-developed freight infrastructure
100% renewable energy from water and wind power
One of Europe’s lowest power costs
Sweden has the lowest industrial electricity prices in Western and Northern Europe. In fact, Västernorrland offers the most competitive prices in Sweden. Combined with the low energy tax applicable to Swedish industries, this results in one of the lowest power costs in Europe.
Where talent and grit meet
The High Coast has a strong industrial cluster fed by the large competence pool. There are experienced and skilled industrial workers as well as specialized consultants. In addition, there are prominent researchers in cell chemistry, storage and energy charging, as well as in materials and environmentally friendly supercapacitors. In short – staffing is not an issue.
We know the flow
Our industries ship their goods to all parts of the world. Large volumes of goods also pass through the region on their way to the rest of the world from the mines and the heavy industries further north in Sweden. The Sundsvall logistics park, completed in 2023, is one of Sweden’s most important transport hubs, combining train, road and boat logistics for a flexible offering.
Explore our available sites
The High Coast region offers a wide range of available sites, all of them well suited for battery production.
Alby
