Green Hydrogen
Sustainable hydrogen is changing the way we produce and store energy and is vital in phasing out fossil fuels. With an extensive supply of freshwater and access to 100% green energy, the High Coast region is already attracting companies such as RES Renewable who see the advantages. What’s your place in the value chain?
SITE ALBY
Hydrogen at the heart of an industrial symbiosis
In Alby, Ånge municipality, renewable energy giant RES is planning a green hydrogen plant that will make Ånge and Västernorrland a hub for green energy. Access to flowing water and green electricity is essential in the process of hydrogen electrolysis, as is a stable electric grid. The Alby site in Ånge checks all the boxes, and RES is on schedule to begin development in 2025–2026.
Green hydrogen is an important part of the transformation to renewable energy. In Ånge, the 82 000 tons of green hydrogen produced every year will primarily be used by neighbouring industries in a green industrial symbiosis. Hydrogen will be used in energy-intensive applications, while the residual heat and oxygen from electrolysis will be used by other takers, like greenhouses or a fish farm.
DID YOU KNOW that Running water and access to renewable electricity are hallmarks of Västernorrland and the High Coast. There are many suitable sites for hydrogen production.
We know the flow
Our industries ship their goods to all parts of the world. Large volumes of goods also pass through the region on their way to the rest of the world from the mines and the heavy industries further north in Sweden. The Sundsvall logistics park, completed in 2023, is one of Sweden’s most important transport hubs, combining train, road and boat logistics for a flexible offering.
100% renewable
With great access to hydro and wind power, Västernorrland can offer you 100% renewable energy.
Stable grid
Västernorrland boasts one of the world’s most stable power grids!
#1
Sweden has the biggest share of renewable energy (66 %) in the EU as of 2022.
